Nexus Digital ProAn armed man with a machete forced his way into the home of William Ruto, Kenya’s Deputy President’s house after wounding a police officer on guard, police sources say.

According to the National Police Inspector General, Joseph Boinner, “In circumstances that are yet unclear, he hit an officer on duty with a machete and managed to enter the farm complex.” Earlier reports talk of a number of gunmen.

At the time of the incident, Mr Ruto and family were not at the compound which is found near Eldoret.

Police sources say the attacker was shot dead which ended several hours of siege.

This incident is coming ten days before the regional, legislative and presidential elections.

Meanwhile, a key employee of the Kenyan Election Commission was found dead days before the elections that will take place on August 8. Chris Musando’s body was found without one of his arms days after he went missing.

Police reported that the ICT manager’s body and that of an unidentified woman was found in the Kikuyu area, outskirts of Nairobi.

Tensions are high as the presidential election is expected to be tight a run between incumbent Uhuru Kenyatta and his long-time political opponent, Raila Odinga.
