Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos has surpassed Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft to become the richest person in the world. This was due to surge in shares of Inc. this Thursday morning.

The increase has been seen in reports of the company’s earnings that will be released today, reports Bloomberg. Hence, if the price of Amazon’s stock stays up without witnessing a fall by this evening, then Bezos position will last a little longer.

By the time markets closed yesterday, the Amazon founder’s fortune was at $89 billion. Today, around 10:10 am in New York, Amazon’s shares saw an increase to $1,065.92. This rise helped in crowning Bezos as the world’s richest man.

This title has been held by Bill Gates since 2013. It should be noted that Bezos is the sixth person to have held this title in the past 30 years after entering the list around 20 years ago.
